If you have looked around your loved one’s home and realized that a good clean is in order, but you do not have the time, and they cannot do it themselves, then you can rely on their caregiver to do it for you and them. As seniors start to age, they will quickly realize that they cannot do everything they once did before such as washing the dishes, cooking meals, or even cleaning up the home. This is part of the aging process, but if the home remains unkempt, it can become a safety hazard in more than one way.
At Comfort Keepers, your loved one’s assigned caregiver can do all of the cleaning for your loved one or even assist them as they attempt to clean their home. Some seniors want to remain independent and do it themselves, but they need someone there to monitor them and help with the hard to reach items.
Below, you will find some cleaning tips from our expert caregiver team!
Clear out clutter. Clutter is one of the many reasons why your loved one may fall and injure themselves in their home. If your loved one has accumulated a lot of items over the years, our caregiver can help them go through the items and decide what they want to keep and get rid of. Too many items in a small space can become a fall risk.
Choose safe chemicals. Household cleaners can be potent and they can cause respiratory problems and even irritate the skin. Our team will work with your loved one to choose chemicals that are safe for them to use and also safe for them to have in the home.
Make things more accessible. Seniors may have a harder time reaching up or down to get items. Placing things that can be used every day on counters and tables can help prevent accidents and further assist their independence in the home.
Stop when you feel you need to. Lastly, our team will make sure that your loved one does not overdo it at any point in time. We always tell our senior patients to stop when they need to and do not force themselves to do anymore. Our team can handle all of the cleaning for your parent, so they do not have to overwork themselves.
